Grant Collins has been at the sharp end of the music industry for over three decades. Responsible for over 100 releases as Darshan, his Excession project has been “aimed squarely at 4×4 techno and progressive house”. Fulfilling this brief in admirable fashion, the “Twilight” EP was a slice of pure melodic joy. Originally released in February 2014, “Twilight” now returns once more to Proton Music with a pair of excellent new remixes from Embliss and Fulvio Perniola.

Tim Brandwijk’s fabled reputation as talented producer is well deserved. Never content to rest on his laurels, Tim’s Embliss pseudonym has been a constant evolutionary force in the ever-changing world of modern electronic music. A talent developed from an early age from a family immersed in music, a track signed at the age of 15 provided a glimpse of what was to follow. Continuing to enhance his skills at the Utrecht School of the Arts for Music Technology”, graduation quickly saw Embliss move into the realm of dance music. Over a century of production credits followed and initial outings on Morphosis and Silk Digital have flourished into work signed to Armada and Anjunadeep, the latter seeing “Back To Mine” feature on the “Anjunadeep 03” compilation in 2011.

Long time friend to the Proton family, both Particles and Proton Music have seen a score of combined releases with the “Stronghold” EP gaining significant traction in 2013, supported by heavyweights, Matt Darey, Blake Jarrell and Zack Roth. Furthermore, Embliss’ “Mind Over Matter” show on Proton Radio continues to showcase an array of new music. Following up the recent “Stronghold (Remixed)”, Embliss now returns to Proton Music with a typically impressive version of “Twilight”. Taking core themes central to Excession’s original, Embliss has taken a considered approach that carefully crafts melodic sequences into a head-shaking percussive groove, filling the soundstage with shuffling hats and shakers. A smooth, deep bass groove and emotive piano stabs add further to a stunning rework.

There are few artists who can claim to have featured on Pete Tong’s iconic “Essential Mix” series on BBC Radio One. Fulvio Perniola is one such artist, having appeared on the show as one half of the Fathers of Sound act in 1997. Since then Fulvio has gone on to forge an exceptional career for himself with legion credits in three short years since 2011. Owner of NuTunes and HMM, the Italian from Tuscany has seen over a century of credits on his own labels while also filling the catalogues of Armada, Lost Language and S&S Records.

Remixing Silinder’s “A Doomed Endeavour” for Proton in April saw the track immediately licensed to Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance compilation series. Thus, it is with great delight that Proton Music welcomes back Fulvio Perniola to remix Excession. An epic 10-minute journey sees “Twilight” gently evolve from smooth soundscape into throbbing bass colossus. Tempered by haunting vocal slices, swimming pads and subtle motifs from the original, the remix is anchored by a strong beat and expertly crafted percussion to create a cleverly worked interpretation.

Remixes from Embliss and Fulvio Perniola have once again seen Excession sparkle in the “Twilight”.
